2024-25 PD Workshop Series
Session 1
A Foundation for Leading With Data
October 17, 2024
Develop the key frameworks for understanding how to lead in your position with data. Whatever your position-- teacher, support staff, building leader, principal, central office-- holding a firm foundation for leading with data can make the difference between leading and getting lost in information. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
apply a framework for organizing data into predictable categories
develop your vocabulary for understanding types of data
explain a framework for turning data into action
Targeted Audience: Any educator looking to better understand leading with data at any level (teacher, building, district, etc.)
Session 2
Moving From Data to Action
December 12, 2024
We all have data on our real or virtual shelves. But in order to truly lead, we have to be able to turn data into action, and help others do the same. This workshop will focus on the pathway from collecting data to using that data to inspire effective action in ourselves and those we seek to lead. Attendees of this workshop will:
learn how to apply the CARPA cycle framework to their own work
plan how to be effective for the different audiences
plan how to harness the power of their teams to "pull together" towards the end goal of data-powered action
Targeted Audience: Any educator looking to better understand leading with data at any level (teacher, building, district, etc.)
Session 3
Telling Stories With Data
February 6, 2025
Since the beginning of our humanity, stories have been the way we have passed information and communicated in ways that stick. As data leaders we can break through fear of data by keeping the focus on the narrative– what’s actually happening. This workshop will:
learn how story is an incredibly powerful tool for effectively communicating a message that sticks
tease out stories from within large sets of data
use data to interrogate narratives that exist in your schools
Targeted Audience: Any educator with the opportunity to move a team or group with data
Session 4
Differentiated Leadership Through Data
April 3, 2025
Schools are large and complicated organizations. As leaders part of our job is to harness the people around us to work together towards common goals-- and also to dive deep into the specific ways that each role can make a unique contribution. Match up roles in your school district with key questions about which data to use and how to use it-- and how to build that all together into a cohesive team. Participants will learn:
how to lead from any position in your district
how to think about different roles and what each can contribute to a high-functioning data team
how to maximize your team's efficacy
Targeted Audience: Educators who work within teams or supervise teams
Session 5
Using Hard-to-Reach Data
May 29, 2025
Assessment data is great-- there are plenty of tools that give us visually-appealing and detailed reports. But to really see what's going on-- and effect change in your role-- you need to get to the hard-to-reach places. Surveys and interviews give treasure troves of data, but leaders need qualitative skills to make sense of them. This workshop will teach participants to:
plan to collect qualitative data from valuable sources
get a handle on arranging and coding interview and survey qualitative data
identify and plan for collection of data from places and people who are marginalized or don't have their voices heard loudly enough
Targeted Audience: Educators who are comfortable with data basics and are looking to advance their skills beyond typical data sources
All sessions will require 48 hours notice is a registered attendee will not be attending.
Districts will be billed for their registered attendees unless prior notice of cancellation within 48 hours of the session.
